Learning in Hiroshima, moving to Los Angeles

In her 2026 HIPHOPCs interview, Yuko recalls buying turntables with a friend and practising at bars. She says her first club set was an opening slot at DJ KAORI’s Hiroshima show. Alongside the inspiration she found in DJ KAORI and DJ Junko, she describes learning the practical work of setting up equipment herself. Read her account

Her starting year is not fully settled. A 2021 DJcity introduction gives 2004; in the HIPHOPCs interview she recalls 2004 or 2005, but elsewhere places her start with vinyl around 2000. This guide keeps those recollections distinct rather than choosing one exact year. Her move to Los Angeles in 2011 is recorded in both interviews. DJcity interview (Japanese) / HIPHOPCs interview

Yuko says a Friday residency passed on by DJ Sherry Cat, also from Hiroshima, gave her a foothold in LA. Her official website lists AREA DNA for 2011–2013. The interview adds the practical detail: carrying her equipment and building experience week by week. Her official work history / Her first LA residency

Choosing music for the people in front of her

Asked what comes first when her own taste differs from the audience’s, Yuko chooses the audience. She describes researching local LA artists, responding to each event’s theme and crowd, and checking lyrics and clean versions for daytime public events. These are her working decisions as described in the interview, rather than a rulebook for every venue. Yuko on selection and reading a crowd

For DJcity in 2021, she picked Usher’s “Yeah,” Too $hort’s “Blow the Whistle” and Ghost Town DJ’s “My Boo” among her most-played tracks. In the 2026 HIPHOPCs interview, she discusses requests for Don Toliver’s “Body” and the response to Hechizeros Band’s “El Sonidito.” Read across the two conversations, these selections show how she talks about particular crowds at different moments, rather than a permanent signature playlist. What is DREAM DJ Service?

The official page offers a mobile DJ service with a booth and speakers for birthday parties, pop-up stores and corporate events. In the HIPHOPCs interview, Yuko explains that she personally brings the equipment and creates a space for DJing. Booking other DJs is described as an ambition for the business, not an already established service. DREAM DJ Service / Yuko on the business
