BADSAIKUSH: How Repetition Turned Memory into Literature
BADSAIKUSH’s most useful self-definition arrived years after the records that made it convincing.
In 2026, BLUEPRINT promoted a long-form print interview with a line we render in English as: “For me, hip-hop is literature.” (official BLUEPRINT announcement, in Japanese) The sentence was not a sudden move toward respectability. It named a method already audible in his work: let a loop hold still, write until memory becomes structure, and remove any line that sounds like it was made only to travel.
That method is why BADSAIKUSH cannot be reduced to the cannabis imagery surrounding Namedaruma, the gravel in his voice or what HIPHOPCs hears as a return to sample-led rap. Those elements are present. The deeper distinction is how he turns repetition into narrative time.
A BADSAIKUSH verse does not escape its environment. It stays there long enough for one street, one room or one decision to acquire a history.
This English profile follows that writing process from “契” on NORTHERNBLUE1.0.4. through “LIFE STASH,” “FLOATIN’,” GODBREATH BUDDHACESS and the verified public record as of August 25, 2026.
BADSAIKUSH in 30 seconds
| Field | Verified detail |
|---|---|
| Artist name | BADSAIKUSH. The historical styling Sai a.k.a. BADSAIKUSH / 賽 a.k.a. BADSAIKUSH also appears in earlier material |
| Role | Rapper and a central creative figure in Namedaruma (舐達麻; styled NAMEDARUMAAZ on English distribution pages). Apple Music’s profile specifically associates him with beat selection; the evidence does not establish a formal current “leader” title |
| Personal origin | Fukaya, Saitama Prefecture, identified as his hometown in his 2024 GQ interview |
| Group geography | Kumagaya, Saitama Prefecture. Distributor and official-store materials represent Namedaruma as a Kumagaya group; this is distinct from BADSAIKUSH’s personal hometown |
| Recorded configuration | Namedaruma became widely known through recordings credited to BADSAIKUSH, G-PLANTS and DELTA9KID. On August 14, 2026, G PLANTS said that he had left the group. No formal announcement reviewed here establishes a replacement lineup or dissolution |
| Core production partners | GREEN ASSASSIN DOLLAR and 7SEEDS |
| Key group albums | NORTHERNBLUE1.0.4. (2015); GODBREATH BUDDHACESS (2019); GODBREATH BUDDHACESS (THE RE-UP EDITION) (2025) |
| Selected collaborative projects | MARY JANE with RYKEY (2019); GOLD DISC with ANARCHY (2020) |
| Verified 2026 context | An untitled BADSAIKUSH / GREEN ASSASSIN DOLLAR track appeared in a March campaign film; BADSAIKUSH then received the cover and a new 20,000-plus-character interview in BLUEPRINT THE RECORDS 001. In August, G PLANTS said that he had left Namedaruma |

Fukaya is the hometown; Kumagaya is the group map
Two geographic claims are often collapsed in short biographies. They should not be.
In a 2024 first-person interview, BADSAIKUSH spoke about being born in Fukaya and about the class limits he once expected to define an entire life there. GQ identifies Fukaya as his Saitama hometown. (GQ Japan interview, in Japanese)
Namedaruma, by contrast, has long represented Kumagaya. The distributor’s page for GODBREATH BUDDHACESS calls the group “from Saitama/Kumagaya,” while its official sales infrastructure also points back to Kumagaya. (Ultra-Vybe album page, in Japanese)
The difference is not trivia. Fukaya locates the person whose memory enters the verse; Kumagaya locates the group, parties, label activity and shared public identity around the records. HIPHOPCs keeps those layers separate in the Saitama Rap Atlas, where an artist’s hometown and a group’s base are mapped as related but non-identical facts.
Biography: before the national audience
Namedaruma formed in 2009, but national recognition came much later. A KAI-YOU Premium history reports that member 1.0.4 died on June 3 that year; it also reports that BADSAIKUSH and DELTA9KID were arrested and that BADSAIKUSH spent approximately one year in a juvenile training school. (KAI-YOU Premium history, in Japanese)
That source does not justify every detail repeated in secondary retellings. This profile therefore does not add claims about a police pursuit, who was driving or the alleged offense. It records only what the cited account supports.
The name 1.0.4 remained in the work. Namedaruma’s first full album, NORTHERNBLUE1.0.4., arrived on December 3, 2015. Its distribution page lists twelve tracks and renders the final, extended piece “契” as “PLEDGE” in English. (official NORTHERNBLUE1.0.4. release page)
The album matters not only as a debut document but as the point where BADSAIKUSH says his writing process changed. He told GQ that “契,” a track running beyond nine minutes, was the first time he felt a beat draw lyrics out of him. Long sentences arrived with unusual ease. The lesson was not simply to find atmospheric production; it was that the right beat could function as an authorial pressure.
That distinction helps explain the records that followed. A loop in this catalog is not empty space beneath a confession. It is a constraint that decides how long the memory can remain present, where another voice can enter and when a detail becomes a refrain.
“LIFE STASH”: writing for absence changed the voice
The music video for “LIFE STASH” was published in October 2018. In the GQ interview, BADSAIKUSH said he had written and recorded the song while on bail after a 2017 arrest, with a one-year prison term ahead of him. That passage does not identify the underlying charge, and this profile does not supply one.
His stated reason for increasing his output was more revealing than the chronology. He wanted to leave enough words for people close to him to hear what he had been thinking during a coming absence. One immaculate “classic” would not perform that task as well as a body of songs that could accompany different days.
7SEEDS producer DJ BUN also pushed him to relax and deliver the words more like speech. BADSAIKUSH told GQ that his rap changed after the track. The effect is audible as a reduction in force without a reduction in weight: the voice no longer has to announce that every line is important. It can let the accumulation make that case.
This is the first key to hearing BADSAIKUSH. His restraint is not emotional distance. It is a way of fitting more lived time inside the verse.
GREEN ASSASSIN DOLLAR and the architecture of “FLOATIN’”
BADSAIKUSH connected the discovery made on “契” to his later partnership with GREEN ASSASSIN DOLLAR. He said that after leaving prison and hearing the producer’s work, he felt he had found the beatmaker he had been seeking. Their first song together was “FLOATIN’.” “GOOD DAY” followed months later, but BADSAIKUSH stressed that the public sequence concealed many discarded songs. (GQ Japan on “契,” “FLOATIN’” and the discarded drafts)
That account corrects an easy myth. The apparent naturalness of the partnership was not the absence of editing. It was the result of editing hard enough that only the inevitable-sounding records remained.
HIPHOPCs hears GREEN ASSASSIN DOLLAR’s loops as preserving an identifiable source texture rather than polishing it into neutrality. 7SEEDS brings a different pocket, heard on “LIFE STASH” and “ENDLESS ROLL.” Across both approaches, the production leaves narrative room: drums establish the floor, a recurring phrase fixes the emotional weather, and the rappers change the meaning of that repetition by adding detail. This is editorial listening analysis, not a production claim attributed to either beatmaker.
The second Namedaruma album, GODBREATH BUDDHACESS, arrived digitally at the end of August 2019. Ultra-Vybe lists the physical CD on October 16 under catalog number AGH-005 and documents all ten tracks, with GREEN ASSASSIN DOLLAR and 7SEEDS dividing the production. These are two release formats and dates, not a contradiction. (Ultra-Vybe’s CD listing and credits)
The album’s achievement was not that Japanese rap had rediscovered slow, sample-led production. It was that a regional group made patience feel contemporary. Space, smoke and luxury appear, but the records remain anchored by ordinary nouns, local relationships and the consequences of time.
Selected discography
This is a guide to the releases most useful for understanding BADSAIKUSH, not a claim that every group track is a solo work. Namedaruma’s English distribution pages use the artist spelling NAMEDARUMAAZ, while Japanese media generally use 舐達麻.
| Year | Release | Credit and significance |
|---|---|---|
| 2015 | NORTHERNBLUE1.0.4. | Namedaruma’s twelve-track first album. The closing “契” is the point BADSAIKUSH identifies as the discovery of beat-led writing |
| 2019 | MARY JANE | A six-track collaborative EP credited to RYKEY × BADSAIKUSH; a compact view of how his measured delivery behaves outside the group format. (official release page) |
| 2019 | GODBREATH BUDDHACESS | Namedaruma’s ten-track second album, built around production by GREEN ASSASSIN DOLLAR and 7SEEDS |
| 2020 | GOLD DISC | A four-track collaborative EP credited to ANARCHY & BADSAIKUSH, with GREEN ASSASSIN DOLLAR producing every track. (official release page) |
| 2025 | GODBREATH BUDDHACESS (THE RE-UP EDITION) | A ten-track reconfiguration released June 1. It replaces the original second track, “SPACE BALL,” with “THE SEQUEL”; it is not simply an unchanged remaster. (official Re-Up track list and credits) |
Major post-album Namedaruma records featuring BADSAIKUSH include “BUDS MONTAGE” (2020), “BLUE IN BEATS” (2022), “ALLDAY” (2023) and “FEEL OR BEEF BADPOP IS DEAD” (2023). Streaming services sometimes preserve inconsistent punctuation or older spellings in track-level credits; this profile retains the current BADSAIKUSH styling in prose rather than treating each metadata variation as a separate alias.
From “BLUE IN BEATS” to “ALLDAY”: art before content
By 2024, BADSAIKUSH was speaking openly about the tension between art and distribution. He told GQ that “BLUE IN BEATS” took two years to complete. The delay matters because the finished song can sound effortless: the calm surface is the audible result of refusing earlier versions.
He also distinguished earning from making music only to be sold. That is not an anti-commercial pose. In the same conversation he treated money as a practical concern. The boundary is narrower and more demanding: commercial success cannot be the reason a line survives the edit.
“ALLDAY” applies that standard socially. Rather than building prestige from familiar talk about money, drugs, women or proximity to powerful people, the song treats those claims as exhausted material. BADSAIKUSH’s explanation centered on distrust of relationships formed after fame. The record’s force comes from refusing to turn that distrust into frantic self-defense.
“FEEL OR BEEF BADPOP IS DEAD” demonstrates the limit of that restraint. BADSAIKUSH said he did not want to write or release a song aimed at a particular person, but felt that remaining silent was no longer possible. The track should not be mistaken for his preferred working mode. In his own account, it was an exception produced by pressure.
Across these songs, silence is not an absence of position. It is part of the edit. BADSAIKUSH withholds the immediate response so that the released record, when it comes, has to carry more than the day’s argument.
The public legal record, stated precisely
Legal history appears in BADSAIKUSH’s own account of how “LIFE STASH” was made and in news reporting. It should be neither erased nor inflated into a complete explanation of the music.
On October 4, 2022, he was arrested on suspicion of jointly possessing cannabis. Prosecutors declined to indict him on October 14; the reason was not disclosed. (ORICON’s report on the October 4 arrest, in Japanese / Shizuoka Asahi Television’s non-prosecution report, in Japanese)
An arrest is not a conviction. A non-prosecution disposition is not an acquittal and, without a disclosed reason, does not establish why prosecutors declined to indict. The cited local report applies that disposition to BADSAIKUSH and one woman; it does not say that every person arrested in the wider matter received the same result.
Separate 2021 reporting concerned the arrests of G-PLANTS and DELTA9KID, not BADSAIKUSH. It is therefore not entered as an arrest in his personal chronology.
Where BADSAIKUSH stands in 2026
Three different records describe 2026, and none should be made to say more than it does.
First, a March campaign film for Timberland and WACKO MARIA included new music credited to BADSAIKUSH and GREEN ASSASSIN DOLLAR. KAI-YOU reported that no song title had been announced. The words “Tengoku Tokyo” appeared in BADSAIKUSH’s post, but the available record does not establish them as the official title. (KAI-YOU’s March 25 report, in Japanese)
Second, BLUEPRINT THE RECORDS 001 placed BADSAIKUSH on the cover and opened with a newly recorded interview exceeding 20,000 Japanese characters across 28 pages. The official announcement began releasing video excerpts on June 11; KAI-YOU reported a July 7 publication date. This is the source of the compact artistic statement, “For me, hip-hop is literature.” (official BLUEPRINT announcement, in Japanese / KAI-YOU publication report, in Japanese)
Third, group status changed. On August 14, G PLANTS told MyNavi News that he had quit and left Namedaruma. The interview establishes his statement about his own departure. It does not, by itself, establish that Namedaruma dissolved, that a new duo was formally constituted or that another member replaced him. (MyNavi News interview with G PLANTS, in Japanese)
For that reason, “the three MCs” in this profile describes the best-known recorded configuration, not a current active lineup.
In 2024, BADSAIKUSH told GQ that a third Namedaruma album was in progress and that sample clearance for a remix involving Awich was holding up work. As of August 25, 2026, the reliable public sources reviewed for this profile do not confirm an official title, release date or final track list. The 2024 statement remains a production snapshot—not a release announcement that should be silently carried into the present.
Eight tracks for understanding BADSAIKUSH
- “契” (“PLEDGE” on the English catalog page) — Start with the length. This is where BADSAIKUSH says a beat first seemed to draw the writing from him. It establishes his method before the better-known production partnership.
- “LIFE STASH” — Hear the move toward conversational force. The song turns the need to leave words behind into a delivery that can carry more detail without sounding hurried.
- “FLOATIN’” — The first BADSAIKUSH / GREEN ASSASSIN DOLLAR collaboration in his account. The loop does not merely create smoke; it regulates how each voice enters and how long an image remains suspended.
- “GOOD DAY” — A clear entrance to GODBREATH BUDDHACESS. Compare its apparent ease with BADSAIKUSH’s account of the many unreleased drafts behind the public run.
- “BUDS MONTAGE” — The most direct visual introduction to the group’s wider world. Watch the official music video, then return to how the verses make a montage feel continuous rather than episodic.
- “BLUE IN BEATS” — The song that took two years to satisfy him. Listen for precision beneath calm rather than treating slowness as looseness.
- “ALLDAY” — A record about what no longer deserves conversation. Its refusal of familiar status talk makes restraint itself into subject matter.
- “FEEL OR BEEF BADPOP IS DEAD” — An intentionally uncomfortable endpoint: a direct-response record made by an artist who says he would rather concentrate on his own work.
The order reveals the through-line. “契” discovers that a beat can generate language. “LIFE STASH” changes why the language must be preserved. “FLOATIN’” finds the production partner able to hold it. The later songs test whether that method can survive fame, commerce and pressure to answer immediately.
What “hip-hop is literature” means here
Calling rap literature can become an empty compliment if it simply means “the lyrics are serious.” BADSAIKUSH’s catalog supports a more exact reading.
First, place is not backdrop. Fukaya and Kumagaya are different coordinates with different narrative functions. Second, repetition changes meaning. A stable loop allows the next concrete detail to revise what came before. Third, editing is ethical as well as technical: a line must answer to lived experience, not only to promotion, an argument or a market.
Finally, the work accepts unresolved time. An album can carry the name of someone absent. A song written before confinement can be heard after release. A two-year revision can arrive sounding casual. A public statement about a group can remain true to one moment without settling the next.
The literature is not a polish applied to the street account. It is the form that prevents the account from becoming a slogan.
